You have to love their whackey opinions. Strummer had some strange opinions, Lou Reed, Zappa. I much prefer the Ramones to the Pistols, i think they were way better, much more fun, and completely original.

I suppose he means that it was seeing The Sex Pistols that inspired Joe to leave the 101ers (or be prepared to leave when he was asked to join The Clash). The only other "favour" I can think of was John arranging for a Teddy Boy--a really huge guy--to ambush Joe in the toilet of a club and beat him up (further breaking Joe's teeth, I think). Not much of a favour.

There would be no UK punk rock AT ALL except the Damned were it not for the Ramones. The Clash were far more important and innovative than the Sex Pistols in every conceivable way, even taking into account Cut the Crap. John Lydon needs to f*ck off, twice.
